Dan Light, MBA, founder of Dan Light Consulting, is a Consultant, Mentor, Coach, Speaker, and Author focusing on early stage technology and professional services companies. As a proven and results-oriented entrepreneur and Senior Executive Dan has had full P&L responsibility. His strengths are in operations, strategic planning, process optimization, business development and effective problem solving.
Dan has developed an effective value added management style that is both participative and results oriented. His career successes include start-ups, pre-IPO’s, turnarounds, and mergers and acquisitions in fast growth operations. He has contributed to the success of 18 of Washington Technology’s top 100 companies. As a businessman, he used his entrepreneurial skills to create several companies from the ground up. These included: Foxville Business Development Corporation, a business consulting practice for Defense contractors, Exposures Photography, a stock and freelance photography company, MALCO of Northern Virginia, an automotive and industrial chemical company, and Gatherings, an event planning service.
During his 35 years of diverse business experience Dan has honed his ability to overcome obstacles in any circumstance. He has managed programs valued between $13 thousand and $200 million without a cost overrun or delay in delivery. Leading teams of up to 160 personnel he prevented a 62% cost overrun on a database management contract and generated $12 billion in new business in a 10 year period. As a business development consultant Dan applied his skills and experience to help his clients win more than 60% of all their competitive bids.
He has made it his mission to be a life-long student of business leaders, business operations and business management. He learned early on that to create a company that was a preferred investment to shareholders and an employer that attracted talent necessary to ensure long-term growth and profitability, the company needed to communicate and apply a clear definition of their founding principles.
Dan has an MBA-Management and Information Systems from Keller Graduate School of Management and BS-Biology from West Virginia State University. He is a graduate of the Total Quality Institute and the GE Change Acceleration Process. He has completed graduate work in Operations Research, Risk Analysis, Corporate Finance and Engineering. Dan is a former Oracle 8i Developer and he has attended professional development seminars and classes in program management, business law, LAN/WAN Networking Fundamentals, information security, telecommunication and artificial intelligence.
